Position Title:Registered Polysomnographic Technologist
PRNDepartment:Sleep LabJob Description:General Description: Under
direct supervision of The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist
(RPSGT), will provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of
sleep disorders including sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic
interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient
education.Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in
this section are core to the position. - Inability to perform these
responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in
disqualification from the position. -
- Coordinates and assumes responsibility for ensuring the
delivery of safe, efficient and high quality technical services and
support in the sleep lab.
- Provides patient care, appropriately operates equipment and
carries out diagnostic and therapeutic interventions including but
not limited to Polysomnographic Testing, CPAP Titration, and
Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT).
- Documents physiological activity and abnormal readings;
provides a detailed report for the physician
- Calibrates, maintains and cleans equipment used by the
department
- Utilizes appropriate patient/family teaching methods and
ensures education needs are met for both pre and post
procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of scoring parametersGeneral
Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assignedMinimum
Qualifications:Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D
required.Experience: -0 - 3 years of experience required. Preferred
candidates with six (6) months healthcare experience OR current
enrollment in an accredited educational program leading to a
certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep
technology.License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: -
Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
required upon hire. Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT)
-preferred.Special Requirement:Incumbents can remain in this
position for up to eight (8) months and must pass their CPSGT exam
within the same eight (8) month time frame - incumbents who do not
successfully complete the training program, do not pass the CPSGT
exam, or do not meet the performance expectations of the position,
may be separated from OU Health.Incumbents who possess their CPSGT
upon hire can stay in the position for up to three (3) years -
incumbents who do not successfully obtain their Registered
Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) within the three (3) year
period, may be separated from OU Health.Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of safety and maintenance of electrical
equipment.
- Knowledge of sleep disorders and treatment.
- Experience operating equipment used in the diagnosis and
treatment of sleep disorders.
- Ability to explain technical information. -
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data and prepare a written report.
