This is a highly technical position that requires a strong research background in biomedical or life sciences, including a high level of expertise with bioinformatics algorithms, databases, and analyses with a focus on next-generation sequence data. Although most of the projects will deal directly with the analysis of DNA and RNA sequence data the individual should be well versed in other types of data sources as well (i.e., microarrays) and handling of large data-sets (using data analytics, machine learning, and deep learning techniques). The individual will also work closely with the high priority projects such as the Tier 1 Microbiome project. It is anticipated that this individual will receive many requests to educate and empower faculty, staff, and students to perform bioinformatics analyses on their own. It also is possible that this individual will be asked to collaborate on projects and as such this individual should have excellent oral and written communication skills, be comfortable dealing with a variety of data types, be familiar with standard bioinformatics practices and databases, and have a solid understanding of statistics for biology.Special Instructions to ApplicantsAttach a resume, a letter of interest, and the names, addresses (including e-mail addresses), and telephone numbers of four references. Applications will be accepted until a candidate is selected.Education & ExperiencePosition Qualifications:Required:Ph.D. in bioinformatics, life sciences, or biomedical area, and at least five years experience in bioinformatics; in-depth knowledge of standard bioinformatics practices and databases; experience with standard molecular biology techniques, next-generation sequencing datasets and tools; programing experience with Perl, Python, Java, etc.; experience using HPC; publication record in peer-reviewed journals involving bioinformatics; ability to consistently meet deadlines; ability to prioritize projects.This individual must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment being able to juggle several projects at the same time, understand priorities, complete tasks in a timely manner, and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students who are learning bioinformatics.Oklahoma State University (OSU) strives to provide a safe study, work, and living environment for its faculty, staff, volunteers and students.
