in Radiology (ARRT-R) Certifications: BLS certified through AHA

for extended periods Description: Operates radiology equipment to
produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure
time and distance according to specifications. Takes x-rays
following established radiologic requirements and regulations to
ensure patient care and safety. Retrieves radiologic orders and
inputs related data into electronic medical record. Prepares
patients for radiologic procedures. Escorts patients to the
dressing and x-ray rooms, provides verbal and/or written
instructions, and assists in positioning body parts. Explains
procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
Positions patients on examining tables and adjusts positioning
devices for optimum views. Operates specialized equipment according
to protocols under limited physician supervision. Provides patient
care within a broad range of healthcare needs, including ER and
fluoroscopy. Moves radiograph equipment into specified positions
and adjusts controls based on knowledge of radiographic techniques.
Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive
devices and patient shielding. Obtains acceptable radiologic images
using CR/DR techniques and protocols. Ensures operation of
radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance and
troubleshooting malfunctions. Reports equipment malfunctions to
supervisor or related personnel. Maintains examination rooms and
stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies. Protects patients
and employees by adhering to infection control policies and
protocols. Supports department goals through personal improvements
and educational activities. Maintains professional standards in
conjunction with practice guidelines. Assists with monitoring the
patient’s level of sedation in conjunction with procedures
performed. Initiates additional patient comfort measures as
appropriate. Assures informed consent has been obtained prior to
the start of procedures. Actively participates in protocols for all
invasive procedures. Demonstrates judgment in planning operations
and making decisions in technical fields. Works directly with
patients and/or customers both face to face and via telephone.
Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.
