Title: Charge RN - Surgery Profession: Nurse Specialty: Charge
Duration: Direct Hire Shift: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday
Hours per Shift: 40.00 Experience: Minimum of two years of related
experience, including circulating experience in Ortho and Neuro
cases. License: Valid multi-state or state Registered Nurse
License. Certifications: CNOR preferred. Must-Have: Ortho and Neuro
experience; experience circulating in Neuro and Ortho cases is
required. Description: Coordinates activities of personnel on
assigned shifts to maintain continuity of care, patient flow, and
throughput accountability. Arranges for staffing levels according
to acuities and census. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates
nursing and hospital standards and unit policies and procedures to
monitor and evaluate patient functional status. Uses the nursing
process and physician orders to develop individualized patient care
plans. Provides care/interventions based upon the individual care
plan; continually assesses the effects of interventions,
medications, and treatments. Participates in discharge planning.
Assists in guiding/directing nursing staff in utilizing these
processes. Documents steps in the nursing process in the medical
record utilizing appropriate medical terminology and
hospital-approved abbreviations. Reports observations and findings
regarding patients to the appropriate person and records those
observations accurately and concisely. Complies with all safety
guidelines. Coordinates the maintenance of safe and satisfactory
environmental conditions for staff and patients through continuous
monitoring for compliance with safety and infection control
programs. Verbalizes understanding of patient safety goals as
applicable to the unit. Responds effectively to patient
emergencies. Applies teaching/learning principles in the promotion
of patient health education based on identified goals. Provides
patient/family education throughout the hospital stay and at
discharge to address learning needs associated with tests,
procedures, hospital routine, and post-discharge care. Investigates
patient and staff complaints; reports patient care incidents to the
nurse manager; functions as a patient and family advocate at all
times. Completes variance reports according to established
guidelines to document unusual occurrences. Meets system and
unit-specific competencies annually. Supports unit goals by
attending staff meetings, in-services, and educational offerings.
Practices self-direction by assuming responsibility and
accountability for professional growth. Participates in economical
utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in
a clean/safe manner. Assists in the orientation of new personnel
and supports the assimilation of new team members. Contributes to
performance improvement processes by monitoring quality and
appropriateness of patient care and participating in projects
designed to improve patient outcomes. Performs additional duties as
assigned or required. Demonstrates independent judgment in planning
the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex
technical or professional field. Coordinates activities of others
without supervisory responsibilities. Leads others in the same work
performed without supervisory responsibilities. Works directly with
patients and/or customers. Facilitates communication between
nursing and other departments to ensure continuity and
collaboration of services. Demonstrates knowledge of policies and
procedures related to education, human resources, safety,
fire/emergency preparedness, and infection control. Demonstrates
crisis intervention and triage knowledge. Possesses skills in
analyzing complex situations, making responsible decisions, and
communicating procedures clearly. Organizes and prioritizes work in
an effective and efficient manner. Exhibits effective
interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Acts as a
change agent to create an environment where change can occur.
Maintains knowledge of a wide range of psychosocial, cognitive, and
developmental disorders. Possesses basic PC skills for electronic
